The organization was formed to provide support to anyone gender variant in their gender identity and expression. The Gender Identity Center of Colorado is also an informational and educational resource to the community at large. To Our LGBTQI Community –
The Gender Identity Center of Colorado (GIC) is completely devastated, saddened, and shocked by the senseless mass violence which occurred at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando Florida, this past weekend. Our collective communities hearts ache for the family and friends of the victims and wounded. We will continue to hold ALL of you up in our thoughts, prayers, and support during this time of grief.
Having 50 members of the LGBTQI community lives taken too soon, for reasons which will never be understood or justified, illuminates the sad truth that the fight for equality, acceptance, and basic human safety is far from over. It is important during this time to not respond to the heinous act with fear, hate, violence, or retaliation. We, the COMMUNITY, need to exemplify our pride, love, and existence through standing together as a community – including our allies.
If looking to #StandwithOrlando, there are various ways to help: visit your local blood bank (there are still wounded members); contact Equality Florida for monetary donations; contact your local representatives voicing for increased LGBTQI protections; and attend this weekend’s Denver Pride! Show the world that we shall not stand for being bullied, silenced, or intimidated.
If you or someone you know are in need of extra support during this time, we please ask that you contact: The GIC with its 7 days a week from 9am – 9pm drop-in hours; the Trevor Project 1-866-488-7386; the GLBT National Hotline 1-888-743-4564; or Trans Lifeline 1-877-565-8860. Please don’t hesitate to seek help; each of these organizations is here for the community!
Again, all at the GIC community offer up our thoughts, prayers, and support to all effected by this great loss – including those wounded – and survived. While the road towards healing shall be faced with many challenges, we rally a circle of support and shall not let our community be silenced.
“We are here, and we matter”

Board of Trustees Response Statement to the Orlando, Florida Pulse Nightclub Tragedy

We the members of the Board of Trustees for the Gender Identity Center of Colorado are deeply saddened by the events that occurred in Orlando, Florida at Pulse nightclub. Such a senseless act of violence is difficult to comprehend, and we would like to express our profound sorrow for those who were injured and those who lost their lives. While violence is never an option, the desire to retaliate in some way can become overwhelming. Instead, we should shift our focus to the individuals directly affected by these events. In the days and weeks to come, we will learn more about those who lost their lives. Let us celebrate these individuals, and make sure that their deaths were not in vain.

We would like to offer our thoughts to the friends and families of those whose lives were lost, and to those who managed to escape unharmed. We stand with you, in solidarity, that such unconscionable acts of violence against our, or any other community cannot be tolerated. We envision a world that affirms all gender identities and expressions, and we will continue to do so…now and always.
